A look at the typical stereotyped Brit

OK then everyone, lets begin!

 The Typical Stereotyped Brit

Before I begin, I need to point out the obvious fact that I, myself am English, a Brit, one of those so called “Stiff Upper Lipped” Brits who reside in that small country somewhere in Europe

Before we get started, I really need a cup of tea. And yes, I do mean tea, not coffee. Tea in a cup, with milk and sugar (in my case - no sugar) Right, that’s better..where were we? Ah yes…

The weather hmmm yes, its bloody cold here at the moment. Its as though Winter has already set up residence in good ole England. Most would say its winter all the time in this country. I guess what we really need is a Groundhog to tell us when spring is gonna start. But I don’t think that would help either. No, no, I’m afraid, this is England, the land perpetually cursed with rain, rain and guess what, more rain…stop right there

I am pleased to say that England is not a place wholly of rain and clouds, we do in-fact have good weather…haven’t seen any so far this year but yeah, we get it. Snow seems to have been one of the major things to hit us this year, not any worse however than those poor Americans living in those States blasted with snow days on end, we’re quite fortunate in that way. But then, what does the weatherman know? “Yes, we can expect rain showers all day, storms here, storms there”…yeah right, there I am with like what seems like 100 t-shirts, 50 sweatshirts and 14 pairs of waterproof trousers on, not to mention the 10 umbrellas in my hand…with NO rain. What an idiot I looked and felt like..oh well, what can I say? I’m British

Lets get over this “tea” business right now. I have already mentioned this in another one of my blogs but I’m gonna say it on here as well….

Milk is put in the cup before the hot water!! only kidding. We have two meanings for the word “tea”

1. Tea- a drink made from tea leaves, normally drank in a “cup” and milk and sugar may be added….and

2. Tea- a word derived in England as Dinner

Cuppa is another well coined phrase for a cup of tea. I must say, I drink (when I do) Earl Grey…Ooh, I hear you say, a posh tea..well yep, it is, but I only drink about 1 or 2 mugs of it per week. Coffee is a main drink for me, but I should tell you- decaf, I prefer it. What makes me laugh about America (not taking the piss either) is the endless choice of coffee you can buy….decaf, latte, cappuccino…god, the list goes on. All I want is Coffee!! Brown stuff in a mug- not in a cup, with normal milk - not frothy or steamed, of hot for that matter, just normal milk!

Why doesn’t the Americans understand Cricket? And I don’t mean Jimmy Cricket either. I gotta say, I find it boring…

“hit the ball, run up and down like a prat…its a run!”

but it is a really simple game to understand…i think I just told you the basics in those 13 words!

Lets look at the common stereotyped Britain…rose gardens, all of the Brits knowing the Queen, Oxford, Cricket, Tea…and the list goes on.

I don’t even have a garden so that rules me out… knowing the Queen? Of course! I’m invited to Buckingham Palace every week for a round of Polo and a cup of tea..I think not…we’re commoners, those people that crawl around in the muck planting those rosebushes and walking the Queens Corgis (dogs:- for the brainless) Lets play a game of running up and down some pitch trying to catch a ball..then remembering we’re the ones in bat trying to hit the ball miles away, hurrying off the pitch for that well earned bath followed but yet more cups of tea

I find all this funny and I feel proud of being English. One thing I keep reading about which I must argue is the fact the people think that the Brits do not show emotion. I do not, for one instant think this is true. If you read one of my other blogs which I start to tell you about my life, you will see that I am not one of those who does not show emotion. Emotion is, to me, what binds me together. I can’t tell or show people how I feel, then I have no soul. I judge people by the way they act, the way they talk and most of all, the way they treat me and others. Emotions come into this a lot, laughing, crying, shouting or even fighting..all emotions. I think the Brits get a bad name because of those British people who think they are better than everyone else. They are the ones who travel abroad and put on an act to make out they are superior…the kind of people I hate. I spent two weeks in the US back in 2005 and I never presumed to make myself seem better than others. I like to make good impressions on people, but I don’t need to be a smart Alec to do it. I like to think that we can all get on together, laugh together, cry together, without feeling the need to be a show off or pretend to be someone we’re not

I will be adding more to this posting at  a later date. I hope that all of you that read this will leave a comment
